The Los Alpes lodge property, next to San Ramón de Alajuela, is set amidst the Costa Rican private cloud forest preserve Reserva Los Alpes and offers a generous and comfortable ambiance. From the international airport of San Jose Los Alpes is approximately 1 and a half hours with an all-wheel-drive or 4×4. 

The Los Alpes Lodge offers an exclusive accommodation package. The property sits at 5.000 feet/1,500 meters above sea level at the most southerly  end of Cordillera de Tilarán. This area is a  “M o n t e v e r d e  in a nutshell”, but without the tourist crowd. You will continually enjoy the wonderful views of the surrounding mountain cloud forests and the Pacific with the Gulf of Nicoya, Puerto Caldera and the Tortuga Islands. You can also enjoy leisurely walks on the 12 hectare property either a stroll around the lovely lake or hike the paths in the primary forest.

At Los Alpes you can relax in absolute silence. With a bit of luck you can observe the sacred bird of the Mayas , the Quetzal, which breeds in the immediate vicinity of the lodge at certain times of the year. The Quetzal is one of the most beautiful birds in the world, with its scarlet chest, its turquoise and blue-chested plumage and its tail feathers up to 1 m long.

The Los Alpes Lodge offers unforgettable impressions of Costa Rica’s tropical surroundings. From the terrace you can see the adjacent cloud forested areas as far as the Pacific Ocean – and after a beautiful sunset you can relax by the fireplace.

The Los Alpes property consists of a lodge and a separate commercial building consisting of an apartment / servants quarters and an attached 2 car garage. 

The unique floor plan of the lodge and commercial building is ideal for an individual or professional biological organization interested in cloud forest preserve station research. The owner designed this property for universities to house students and professors while performing biological studies and research. 

The lodge is an open architecture structure, influenced by the European Alps style, that offers dorm style sleeping quarter for  up to eight people. There are 2 bedrooms on the first floor and an open loft that holds 4 beds,  There are two side-by-side bathrooms, — one with a bathtub and the other with a shower. Both bathrooms have running cold and hot water from the property’s own 60 m deep well. The water has the best drinking water quality. 

The living, dining and kitchen areas are all in an open space. The living area is designed to hold gatherings for lectures and meetings. In the center of the living area is a large fire place.

 The lodge has a cozy dining area with a candleabra over the round table that holds 6 persons adjacent to the small kitchenette with a traditional wood stove. There are candle sconces throughout the lodge giving it a feel of a mountain chalet.

However, the commercial building has a fully equipped kitchen with a gas stove with oven, an AEG washer and a dryer. Both kitchens have modern refrigerators with deep freeze.

The commercial building has the main dining area, adjacent to the main kitchen area, with a large corner bench and a long wooden table with chairs offering space for 10 persons perfect for group get-together s. 

In addition to the kitchen and dining room, the commercial building has a full bathroom on the first floor and 4 more beds on the second floor.

There is a third unfinished structure that  can be finished out for additional dormitories and bathroom facilities. The building is already equipped with water and electricity

Although your accommodation is so comfortable, the nearby village – Piedades Sur – with 2 supermarkets is just 20 minutes away. And the nearby university town of San Ramón  is a little more than half an hour away. Here you will find a number of supermarkets, a mall and shops for every need. If necessary, you could also find a wide range of specialists, pharmacies and a well-equipped hospital.
