FarmaGAP Central Pharmacy in San Ramon, Costa Rica has been a staple in the heart of the central market of the municipal block for 12 years.

Close to the bus station and centrally located for ease of access to the residents of San Ramon , they are able to better serve people’s medicinal needs. Providing dedicated, knowledgeable, pharmacists who have a heart to serve the people of San Ramon is the main goal of the owners, Gustavo Jiminez and Ana Patricia Salas Villalobos (Patricia), who also are two of the three pharmacists always available for their clients.

As lifetime residents of San Ramon and its surrounding area, their desire is to offer the largest selection of products, both medicines and medical supplies, in stock at all times at the best prices for all those private pay clients who enter through their doors.

Both Gustavo and Patricia are graduates of the University of Costa Rica, with Gustavo specializing in lab chemistry along with his pharmaceutical degree. Gustavo had worked as a pharmacist in Puntarenas prior to spending five years as the night shift pharmacist at the Hospital Carlos Luis Valverde Vega in San Ramon. Patricia worked in Orotina for 2 years and also in both San Jose and Puntarenas for 6 months each prior to coming back home to her childhood neighborhood to open FarmaGAP with her husband, Gustavo; she also has experience with compounding specialty products. The fact that San Ramon is their family’s home is a testament to the care that they give, both professionally and personally, to those they come in contact with.

As both owners and two of the three pharmacists at FarmaGAP, they are aware of the importance of being able to provide fast, personal service to each of their clients in a timely manner, treating each person as family and attending to their need no matter how big or small it might seem to some. Between each of the three pharmacists on staff, along with their large, knowledgeable and attentive staff of assistants, they are always available in a way that many other pharmacies in the area are unable to match.

Mindful of their clientele, they try to maintain the longest business hours possible every day, from 7am – 9pm, so that no one has to go unattended. Taking time with each person, giving one on one attention, and getting to know their specific needs individually is one of the many benefits to the personalized care that they give.

In Costa Rica, pharmacists are not allowed to prescribe medicines, but they are licensed to recommend products for minor illnesses such as cough, cold, rash, or pain, as well as administer injections as needed by prescription.

They also provide other services, such as blood pressure readings, delivery services, house calls to administer medications, provide at-home care, and have relationships with nurses and doctors on call and available to meet any at home patient needs. The special touch of their care for you and your family personally is one of their most endearing qualities as a health care business. Their attentiveness as business owners, pharmacists, and sensitive people is second to none.

The medications that are available at FarmaGAP are all approved by the Ministry of Health (Ministerio de Salud) of Costa Rica. For anyone having prescriptions from abroad, if the exact brand is not available, they are able to consult their databases to locate and match an equally similar medication if it is allowed in Costa Rica.

Customer service is first and foremost to the staff at FarmaGAP. Their customers sing their praises at how fast they are to attend, how good they are at listening and caring, and how friendly and family-oriented they are. They are not only concerned with their client’s health, but also with their budget. Having several options available for the different needs and providing discounts and special offers are other ways that they care for their customers.

Gustavo and Patricia have many foreign customers, and are great with their English. Several of their assistants are able to assist non-Spanish speakers as well. They have a good number of English speaking regular customers who are just as grateful to their attention and care as the life-long residents of Costa Rica are.

When asked what made them want to be pharmacists, they both answered with smiles on their faces that they love to help people, be a part of their life and good health, and want nothing more than to teach people all that they can as they treat each person like one of their own family. They are two of the most genuine, kind-hearted people in Costa Rica, and San Ramon is blessed to have them, and FarmaGAP Farmacia at the center of everyone’s life and health.
