Kami Sushi restaurant in San Ramon, Costa Rica is a quintessential hole-in-the-wall haven dedicated to satisfying the diverse cravings of sushi enthusiasts both near and far.

With four cozy tables and an ambiance to match, Kami Sushi’s affordable Japanese-inspired creations hold sway over a growing number of local patrons along with the plethora of established diners who gladly take the hour-plus commute from cities like Atenas, Grecia, and Puntarenas.

The Owners

Originally established on October 1, 2014, owner David Castro, a San Jose native, and his charming wife Ginneth Alvarado of San Ramon, relocated Kami Sushi from nearby Naranjo in early 2017 due to the dramatic rise of clientele from San Ramon.
Popular among Ticos (Costa Rican natives) and extranjeros (foreigners) alike, Kami Sushi is an ideal destination for families, couples, and individual sojourners. David and Ginneth put a premium on getting to know their customers, and as a student of Japanese techniques with over 18 years of experience, David prefers to engage and converse with his guests as he prepares the sushi right in front of you.

The Atmosphere

As contemporary jazz plays in the background, regulars Tyler and Marjorie cherish the friendly camaraderie with their hosts while enjoying a casual and tranquil evening of delectable sushi.
Perusing the artistic and classically-designed menu, Kami Sushi offers a variety of savory cuisine. Imports like salmon, eel, and ahi, and locally acquired favorites– tuna, tilapia, and octopus–are chilled and served only after three hours of careful preparation.

Favorite Dishes

The New York Roll, Salmon Skin Roll, Shake Maki, Martini, Philadelphia, and for the real adventurous … the Explosivo Tempura Roll are all popular choices featuring salmon. For tuna lovers, Kami Sushi provides four appetizing choices including the esteemed Spicy Tuna Roll. If crab is more your thing, try any of the seven amazing kani kami rolls.
The Tanuki Roll with hojuelas de tempura, is a sweet and flaky classic, and don’t forget about the Bento Box which is a great sampler option for those who are new to sushi. It comes with teriyaki chicken, sesame seeds, an asian-flavored salad, jasmine rice, and four pieces of sushi.

Kami Sushi graciously welcomes the vegan crowd, and they serve generous portions with each colorful roll consisting of ten pieces. Soy, anguila, wasabi, sweet, and ginger are the in-house sides, and natural refrescos (beverages) compliment any meal.

Summary

Unlike many traditional sushi restaurants, Kami Sushi offers seven different combos ranging from 20 pieces of sushi up to 100, and the best part is you can choose any of your preferred rolls without altering the price.
The consummate artist Leonardo da Vinci coined the phrase, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” You certainly don’t need an elaborate building or fancy accouterments to build a customer base … simply offer amazing sushi in a welcoming and relaxing environment and you make it easy to garner a following.

Bon appétit!
